2009 SWC Meet in Belgium
Fourteen months in the planning and organizing and all I got to remember it is a T-shirt, hundreds of pictures and some very very good memories.
(Intro written by Zog, most pictures by Quase)
"I cant remember the exact time or reason behind meeting up (do we need a reason to play games and drink beer?) but it may have something to do with the UK meet we had earlier in the year (2008) Great times some funny moments and well... beer...
This is how it started:"

OK
this is for all you European types to post yer interest in a Euro leg of the SWC Meet in 2009.
No this isn't to say I'm excluding anyone so UK /Eire / Belgium/ France Holland / Germany etc...
Event: 3 or 5 game Torni. 1 or 2 days
System: TBD
Date: TBD (probably a weekend)
Obviously this will be dependant on the response.
I'm in because I like to travel and with cheap airfares it's not a strain on the wallet.
Who's up for it?
Zog.
"Then it was an up and down trip finding out where was central and available to us for playing there not being a Warhammer World Equivalent in Europe. And there was also a little shift around of who was available and who was not. (next time don't get Pregnant Stretch )
We had a let down early on but it was not to stop us, then Quase "got in" with a Club near him in Belgium. Who used a place called The Outpost. A little negotiation later. And we ended up with the room the club used for the weekend. The outpost is a strange (at least to some of us) Collection of Mini games, Board games, Internet games and CCG's all with food and a bar! Open 11:00 til 03:00. Brilliant!"
"It was decided in the 14 months up to the event that we would be playing 40K in a 3 game tournament. On the Saturday and this left the Sunday for some other activity. Originally Bloodbowl but changed to A Mega 40K game closer to the event."
"For the UK contingent's point of view we met up at Dover on the Friday morning. By the time we were together it was time to get on the ferry and Away we went. 2 hours of a reasonably calm travel. Then 1hr 40ish to Ghent from Dunkirque. And the Hotel! Bit of a wonder around Ghent to find a Bar and a few beers (several were bought by some guy who said it was his birthday....) followed by finding somewhere to eat. We had a fantastic Spanish meal... Spanish in Belgium....Ah well, good food great company. We went to the outpost and met up with the guys that were here already. Beer was partaken in moderation...(OK stop laughing at the back.) and a great night was had."
"Saturday:
morning....Ouch....Ah well, a little wander in the rain and a retreat back to the Hotel to eat their breakfast instead.
Off to the Outpost.
Most people met just outside as the opening time wasn't exact but the tables were set up before hand (thanks Tom_ep and Quase who went in Friday to oversee the deployment of the tables and some locals who had done just about everything already and had gotten us some nice scenery) Also WolfBrother_Bert brought the last couple of tables with some supasweet scenery! "
"And thanks, Max: he had made some nifty name tags for all."
"A little computer magic as Zog had brought his tournament software and we were matched up for our games.
A Fantastic days gaming ensued, with a little communual Grudge match between Max_dammit and me. Great game and every one watching enjoyed it as well. Followed by a circle of heroes game (to be expanded for 2010) with of course beer."
"Sunday: Morning Breakfast at the hotel. Off to the outpost with a pit-stop for food on the way.
Mega 40K game ensues great fun with the most memorable phrases of "Roll a one Onesie!" and "Yay! I failed the psychic test!"
More beer and some great camaraderie.
Back to the hotel and some sleep."
"Up early on Monday morning have some breakfast and off back to Dunkirk. A little tour to reach the ferry port but we got there.
Back to merry old England. On a bit of a choppy sea.
Off the ferry and head back home...
To plan for next year Very Happy"
GAME 1
Harkon GreyWolf Vs Everlast
Harkon: Everlast's Dark Angels put up a valiant fight, but my Orky shooting seemed nigh on unstoppable and eventually led to a Massacre result! Top marks though to a great opponent whose sense of humor throughout the game was brilliant and kept us both in giggles half the time!
Note: Harkon chose to go 2nd because he wanted last turn, but being part of the fun he rolled for the "take the initiative" anyway, 6!!
Everlast: On Saturday, after an introduction to the new comers, my first battle was against Harkon's Orks. After failing to stop his trucks, my units got massacred by a green tide. This did not spoil my fun at all, 'cause it was a great thing to see what my WIP Orks army could do. We had a lot of laughs during the entire battle.
MaxDammit vs RobBJ
MaxDammit: Firstgame against Bob's Necrons, Fun game, was on the winning hand till turn 5 when he teleported his troops to the objective and in a freaky shooting turn removes my objective holding troops. so minor victory
for him
robertjb001's (left) Necrons against Max Dammits'(right)Space Wolves:

Wolfborther_Bert against Tom's Orks
Wolfborther_Bert: his Ork Army is really tough, he already won several tournaments with them but luckily for me he changed it a bit for the SWCHQ meet and replaced a Trukk with some green dudes in it for DA Boss on bike and 3bikers...
it was a hard fought battle to take as many objectives as possible, with the highlight of the game; his dreadnought holding my WolfLord and Wolves for 5 turns in close combat keeping him out of the game. Even though the lord had 6 S6 attacks ,I couldn't do any damage on the Tin Can, even worse: it killed the Lord in Turn3!!!! but in the name of the game, Tom and I decided to let the Lord and dread play with each other (redo the combat every succeeding turn), so the Dread killed the lord 3 times and the only thing the Wolf lord could do in return is to destroy his DCCW...embarrassing for the wolves isn't! Tom also had his share of embarrassment when he failed a Ld test on DA Boss and saw his Boss with the BIG Bike run off the table...
in the final Turn I got 2 objectives more than Tom and won the game!
Quase vs Farseer Yestare
Quase: Some talking, smack-talking and beer later, a hung-over Zog got everything into gear, and I got to play against dem Panzees.
Let's just say my army was 'guided' to it's 'doom
Some very fun moments with my Nurgle Ogryns dishing it out against his Avatar (not the soundest of tactical decisions, but I was curious to see how they'd fare) and some interesting/fun shooting duels in between my Sentinels and his walkers.
Too bad I only found out after my movement phase that it was our last turn. I'd still have lost, but not as bad
Farseer Yestare vs. Quase
FarseerYestare: Quase and his Nurgle army, wonderfully painted (and 1st prize best painted!!) which I proceeded to shoot to bits. He did get quite
unlucky, as the last 5 minutes was announced I could grab most objectives!!
Quase's firts opponent of the day, dressed in the colours of his army,
Farseer Yestare

Traitor Guards in distress

And corrupted power armour to the belated rescue!

Robertjb001: vs Max MaxDammit: Great game and really all yours, if I hadn't managed to use my Monolith to get my Warriors to stop your Scouts & grab the objective.
GAME 2
Everlast vs Thibi:
Everlast: My second battle was against Thibi's Grey Knights (a long local guy). He was a bit quiet in the beginning, but really opened up half way the battle. I just could not get his Crusader destroyed after scoring several penetrating hits with meltaguns, neither could I destroy his Rhino after shooting at it with 2 lascannons for about 3 rounds, to much amusement of the both of us. The battle ended in a solid victory on my side.
Harkon Greywolf vs Howling Wolf
Harkon: 2nd game v Gijs, (that well known throat-grater-name!! For us Brits anyway! LOL) better known as Howling Wolf and his new Codex army. With Ragnar and a Rune Priest and loads of nice stuff I was lucky to get away with a minor loss at the end of it. If course, charging 2 Killa Kans into Ragnar and the Rune Priest and killing them both in the same turn probably helped me avoid a massacre! LOL
Everlast's (left) Salamanders (?) against Thibi's (right) Grey Knights
"Quote Thibi" Please don't hurt me

MaxDammit vs Tom_ep
MaxDammit: Again fun game but unstoppable, with my lack of experience, he removed my whole army except my scouts, almost got his Boss down, but my GH's ran of the table Annihilation.
Tom_ep's (left) Orkses against Max Dammit's (right) Space Wolves

Quase vs ...
For my second game I had a buy, as one of the participants had canceled
Wolfborther_Bert against Farseer Yestare
Wolfborther_Bert: Yestare had a totally different kind of Eldar list I used to play against in my club, so SORRY René if I asked so many questions!!!!!!! while you were having a headache!!!!!!
His list was a real pain in the..... due to the lot of shots he had, resulting losing my bike squad and wolves on turn 2 So.... there was my Wolflord alone on his mount, ...again!!!!
Not living by his oath, he took with the Saga of the Wolfkin, he tried to redeem himself by charging the Avatar head-on. He lasted for 2turns before the living melta got to him. Meanwhile, behind the enemy lines my sneaky scouts took care of the dark reapers and before the scouts were killed by the many, many, many shots of the guardians, they took down a Warwalker with a well placed meltagun schot.
Njal also had his hands full, negating as many Doom's and Guides as possible and controlling his tempest storms, he did a rather good job of it too.
With the distraction of the storm the Bloodclaws could charge the second guardian unit, slaying them until the moment a big ugly Wraith lord came to mix-up everything and killing most of the BC squad.
WolfBrother Bert's (left) Space Puppies against Farseer Yestare's (right) Eldar

Farseer Yestare vs Bert's Spacewolves.
Farseer Yestare: My first experience with the new Spacewolves codex, and boy did they make some NASTY characters!! Stormcaller kept doing some naughty tricks versus my valiant Eldar! Hard fought but fair battle, with a deserved draw at the end.
Robertjb001 vs Damo
Robertjb001: Again great game, with my Monolith being a fire magnet, How many Las cannon shots Damo?
Land-raider, Pred Annihilator & Razorback 1 x Imob + 1 x wpn destroyed by end game, lots of hits but just no lasting damage..
Gaussed myself in the foot, left it too late to get to objectives.
Damo_B's (left) Deathwatch(?) against robertjb001's (right) Necrons

Harkon Greywolf vs Howling Wolf
Harkon Greywolfs' (left) Orkses against Howling Wolf's
(right) Space Puppies

Zog vs Moonfire
Zog's (left) Chaos Marines against Moonfire's (right) local "IG army of powerplaying doom"
GAME 3
Wolfbrother Bert vs Howling Wolf
Wolfbrother Bert's (left) Space Puppies against Howling Wolf's (right) Space Puppies with, at the front of the table, an improvised (counts as)fire hydrant

Everlast vs RobBJ:
Everlast: My third and last battle was against Rob. He brought his Necrons, finally an opponent whom I faced before. He did bring one model I never had to fight, The Nightbringer. I threw everything that could hurt the C'tan at it, but the god killed all those who attempted to do so. My Veteran sqaud disembarked and hid behind their Razorback, hoping the Nightbringer would not see them. "If we stay really quiet, it might go away". Even though I lost this battle, it was great fun to play agianst Rob.
Farseer Yestare vs Francis
Farseer Yestare: Third battle was versus a local guy, Francis. His set-up and movement in the first turn told me he had little interest in a fun battle, so I quit after 10 minutes
His first comment: "eh, yeah, that was power gaming.."(and I did not go to Belgium for that!)
Harkon Greywolf vs Farseer Yestare
Harkon: As mentioned by "Onesie" (FY - more about that later!) against Tom's Orks. What a great game over Bert's amazing Orky scenery! A very close game with me making the most of my first turn and taking out his bikers early on and him making a comeback and taking the lead during the mid section to a hasty recovery and final fling comeback by me to take 11 Kill Points to Tom's 10, leaving it a draw! A very fair result in a very close and fun game!
Note: Harkon chose to go 2nd because he wanted last turn, but being part of the fun he rolled for the "take the initiative" anyway, 6!!

MaxDammit vs ...
MaxDammit: local gamer GKs, his army was a lot of proxy and almost no paint but was a fun guy, By a bad dice roll I drop my pod in front of the 2 passageways to his army so I couldn't get my troops as a whole in his ranks.
I had to drive a long way around to get to him while he was killing the troops that did get to him. solid victory to him.
Robertjb001 vs Everlast
Robertjb001 : Really enjoyable, Monolith won the game for me, by not getting immobilised. The funniest was when the Veterans tried to hide , and got accused of bullying Chiel With Death bringer...
Quase vs Damo_B
Quase: What can I say... Laughed my rear-end off in a very fun and challenging game. End of turn 3 I had 2 kill-points versus his zilch; end of game I think he had 9 kill-points and I got 3 or 4 in total.
Had the hardest time dispatching his Power Armour, but when his Termies arrived, they were dispatched quickly and thoroughly.
An epic fight had taken place in between my Vanquisher and his Land Raider, finished by his Power-Fisted Inquisitor who never managed to immmobilise my tank, but who did labouriously take off all of it's weapons (probably with a screwdriver) save one.
My Psyker going possessed/berserk was a lot of fun, as well as the glorious charge over the hill of my Mutant's Rabble... A 20-man squad charging in on 5 Marines, only to be dispatched and eradicated in the same turn. Oh well, what they couldn't do, the Nurgle Ogryns happily did do (and quite effectively at that!)
Tom_ep's (left rear) Orkses against HG's (well, his back anyway, front right) Orkses

Post-mayhem and carnage
After the battles, the only thing we have slightly resembling a group-piccie
EXTRA GAMES
MaxDammit vs Zog
MaxDammit: Extra game with Zog was just fun, I get the feeling he wasn't going all out but it was a hard fought battle. His Possessed ate my scouts but my vindicator got back at that horny guy, his lord killed him self and his Defiler just wouldn't go down.
The dread had some nice shooting, showing Zog can throw those 1s, He threw 5 dice after one and a other and ended up throwing 1 for action so shooting his twin linked las at my troops 2X, rolling a 1 for the 1st shot, a 1 for the rerole, a 1 for the 2nd shot and a 2 for the rerole
In the end most his troops where down and most of mine where running around so a victory for the wolves.
Thank you for that great game and I hope we can rematch next year

CIRCLE OF CHAMPIONS
Bert's "Puppy on a Puppy" did best and won, but Zog's Khorne Lord provided some much appreciated comic relief first by "hiding" and then by rolling and injuring himself twice and then rolling a gazillion attacks of which hardly any wounded! Bert eventually won the day there.
My Warboss, Gijs' SW Lord and RobBJ's Necron Destroyer Lord ended up in a 3 way bash, which they took out on each other with Rob's 'Cron Lord taking out the Puppy, at which point my Warboss turned round and "opened the can" on 'Cron meat!
Quase's Nurgle Lord then chased my Warboss (he made a decision to investigate a nearby Squig Farm which he'd heard about when the Nurgle Lord ran up behind him! ) Amazingly my Warboss and the Nurgle Boss killed each other in the first round of combat leaving Bert as "Last man standing" and thus winner!
SUNDAY GAME
Farseer Yestare: I faced Harkon as my main opponent, and he wasted no time at all!! 30 seconds into the Mega-battle...
My guardian troops think those bikers are quite fast...
Quase: And sunday... ahhhh sunday with it's 24K no-Apocalypse-rules battle
And we even managed to play 4 whole game-turns in one measly afternoon!
Having a bit of deployment issues (not enough room) my army was so spread out that I was facing Bugs (local player), Howling Wolves' Space Pups, Everlasts' Marines and another Dutch players' Salamanders (I forgot his name )
Luckily I had Zogs' Chos Space Marines as a meat-shield against the two Beakie armies.
My Blight Drone was able to dispatch a whole unit of Marine Scouts, so I was just happy it didn't die without doing anything. Such figs usually are a prime target.
My 20 Zombies got charged by a 16-strong Genestealer squad (that's 64 attacks! with rending!) and one even managed to survive, refusing stubbornly to die going to find me a Genestealers' head to model on his base!
My LasCannons killed the Ass Cannon off of a Baal predator (much to the dismay of the Horny Guy )
My Nurgle Ogryns got tangled in a fight with a Hyve Tyrant, where both sides stubbornly refused to bite the dust, and thanks to some helful thingy from the opposite side (all Psyker-tests roll 3 dice and take the two highest), three of my Psykers got possessed (they fail their test and then they get better!) one taking position on top of the hill, where he stubbornly refused to die, even when charged by a lone Assault Marine.
Also an epic fight was fought in between Ragnar and 15 Genestealers on one side and my 20-strong squad of Plague Marines on the other side (better remember about those Blight Grenades next time eh Howling Wolf?)
Another squad of Genestealers attacked my Mutant's Rabble who valiantly died to provide my Pie-Templates a clear LoS
Everlast: During the mega battle I faced Zog's Nurgle/Khorne Chaos and Quase's Traitor Gaurd, while standing shoulder to shoulder with The Dragon Lord24's Blood Angels and Howling Wolf's Space Wolfs. To bad the both of them had to leave early, leaving me to face both armies. The solution to this was replacing the armies with the losses from my army and those from the Tyranid player (Bernd, also a local guy). During the last played round I decided to open fire on the 'Nids myself, feel the love, hehe. We had fun playing King of the Hill with Quase's posessed psyker and and some of my Angels. But Scrolls, the psyker, turned out to be a true King of the Hill of the mega battle.
Robertjb001: Great day again, just can't look at Nids again...
3900pts (recycling) Nids vs 4003pts Necrons in the middle.
Damo's Laz Cannons still trying to kill my Monolith, losing my Wraiths early on.
Managed to get some hurt on Howling Wolf by using 3 heavy Destroyers.
What can I say, I'm Knackered!
Harkon Greywolf: Sunday's Mega-Battle was great! with about 24,000 points of armies on the table!
My Loota's saw their first action and did brilliantly, with 133 shots in 4 turns!! Amazing stuff! They'll be in my army for a long while to come now!
At my end of the table I faced off against "Onesie's" Eldar, DamoB's Death Watch and Bernd (club member)'s Nids, although Damos and Bernd also faced RobBJ's Crons and the rest further up the table.
My Orks charged straight into the Eldar guns as shown in FY's pic. And then proceeded to die! LOL But then the 2nd wave hit and we got stuck in!
FY's Falcon's Bright Lance targetted my Battlewagon in each of the first three turns, and just as he rolled I told FY to "roll a 1" which he obligingly did! Every time! LOLOL
In the 4th turn, FY's Howling Banshees were charging my MegaNobs and needed a difficult terrain roll of 2 to get into combat, at which point they would have sliced and diced me good and proppa!
I told FY to "roll me double one, snake-eyes!" which he promptly rolled!
I don't think anyone has ever appreciated my "Power of the Warp-ed Dice" before that run of outstanding mind-control!
But hence he is now to be known as Farseer "Onesie" Yestare!
As also mentioned, I wanted to show my "loaded dice" to everyone as an example of my mate's attempts to improve my dice rolling, and I rolled it for Quase to show it inevitably rolls a 6. I rolled a 1 straight out of the box and thought that Quase was going to explode with laughter at the outcome!
Ever wondered what 24K of figs look like when deployed on one table?

I'm Tio, he's Pepe, we're two of a kind...

And to finish it all off, one in-action-piccie that I really really like from the sunday-mage-bash :
